Entry Fee: $50 dollars per team for BBQ Cookoff – Brisket, Ribs & Chicken. $10 dollars per team for Jackpot Beans. This form and all fees can be turned in at check in.

 

Check In

Teams may check in and set up between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2007 at the Cookoff Headquarters in the Grapeland City Park located by the Rodeo Arena

Electricity will be provided. Generators will be allowed as well.

Chief Cook meeting will be held at 7 a.m. on Saturday, July 7, 2007 at the Cookoff Headquarters

 

General Rules

The Grapeland Chamber of Commerce has the right to modify or expand these rules and regulations. Decisions of the Chamber and Judges of the Contest are final regarding the contest results.

The Grapeland Chamber of Commerce is not responsible for theft or damage to equipment or property of contestants.

The Team Coordinator of each team will be held responsible for the conduct of its members and any persons who are or have been in his/her space.

Excessively loud (in the discretion of the Chairman) amplified music, horns or public address systems are prohibited.

Alcohol may be used in recipes, but excessive use of alcoholic beverages or possession or consumption of alcoholic beverages in violation of Texas Alcoholic Beverage Code or by the laws of the City of Grapeland and or Houston County by a member of a team or person in the contestant’s space could be grounds for disqualification and eviction from the Contest.

Each contestant must comply with all pertinent laws and ordinances, including without limitation, City of Grapeland and Houston County and the provisions of the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Code.

 

Cooking and Judging

 

Meat may not be pre-seasoned, marinated, or pre-cooked. Meat will be inspected at check in.

 

Fires must be wood or wood substance. No electric or gas fires allowed.

 

Holes or dug pits are not permitted. Heat shields must be provided for cookers capable of damaging surface of contest area. No open flames of any kind are permitted (e.g. tikki torches or camp fires). Each team must bring a fire extinguisher.

 

Contestants must supply all needed equipment and supplies. Show provides space ONLY!

 

No Garnish or Sauce is allowed in the tray at turn-in. You may cook with sauce but it cannot be ladled onto the meat at turn-in.

 

The Chief Cook will be required to eat with the judges during the judging.

 

Judging will be as follows:

                                                Beans               11 a.m.

                                                Chicken          12 p.m.

                                                Ribs                  1 p.m.

                                                Brisket               2 p.m.

 

The winning teams will be announced and awards will be given at 3 p.m. from the Bandstand in the City Park.

 

Move Out

 

Contest area must be cleared out by 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 7, 2007.

 

All cook sites must be cleaned before moving out. Absolutely no ashes, beans or trash left on cook sites.
